The City of Yokohama is proactively engaged in inclusion activities and organizes the “Yokohama Music Festival” (Yokohama OtoMatsuri) every 3 years, one of the largest music festivals in Japan, under motto of “We want to share music for everyone to enjoy.”

Oko Arai served as Director of the “Yokohama Sound Festival” 3 times, in 2013, 2016 and 2019, and this year was appointed Director, Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall, a hall exclusively designed for musical events that is directly connected to PACIFICO Yokohama, the venue for this year’s ICCA AP Summit.
Ms. Arai has been involved in “Inclusive Arts” research at Tokyo University of the Arts for many years. New instruments developed to support people with disabilities and concerts are being implemented and disseminated to society at the Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall.
These case studies will be introduced as endeavors that tackle achievement of the SDGs through the arts, in the hope that this will be an opportunity for other concert halls and facilities to think about their roles in the community as well as the future image of their business and activities
